About Us
Every cup poured, every slice served, every story shared is part of a bigger journey.
Nestled in the elegant surroundings of Burton House in the heart of Burton-on-Trent, Langan’s Tea Rooms is far more than just a place to eat. It is a place of purpose, this is not just a tearoom, it’s a turning point.
Here, every cup of tea (or coffee) contributes to change.
Every home cooked meal, every freshly baked scone, and every afternoon tea helps fund education, training, and employment for people rebuilding their lives after addiction.
Owned by the O’Connor Gateway Charitable Trust and run as a social enterprise, Langan’s reinvests all revenue directly into our community services, specifically to support individuals who have completed abstinent-based rehabilitation at the BAC O’Connor Centre in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. The majority of the staff who welcome you are graduates of that programme, gaining qualifications, skills, and confidence in a supportive, real-world setting.
A Legacy in Every Cup: A Tribute to Noreen Oliver MBE, Hon.DLit
The mission behind Langan’s was inspired by the extraordinary life and work of Noreen Oliver. As the founder of the BAC O’Connor Centre, and a national leader in addiction recovery, Noreen transformed personal experience into public service, giving thousands of people the tools and support to change their lives.
She believed, deeply and uncompromisingly, that everyone deserves a second chance. That belief underpinned everything she did: the programmes she pioneered, the partnerships she built, and the community she nurtured. Langan’s was created as a living extension of that vision, a place where those in recovery could gain meaningful employment, learn new skills, and be part of something with dignity and purpose.
Noreen’s contribution earned her an MBE, an Honorary Doctorate, and the enduring respect of colleagues, families, and communities across the UK. But she remained grounded in one thing: the people we serve. Today, Langan’s stands as an award-winning social enterprise, a place built on second chances, dignity, and community.
Noreen’s legacy lives on at Langan’s, in every carefully prepared plate, in every warm welcome, and in every customer who chooses to support something bigger than themselves.
